"No one can do it betta..." but Freestyle aka Frzy is coming to let the world know about Jay as his inspiration/source of becoming a great MC.
“Reincarnation?” MIXTAPE REVIEW BY: LaQueena Anderson
“Vibe wit me…”
Picture the “Fallen Soldier” video by Jay-Z. However, replace both “soldiers” with Freestyle a.k.a. Frzy or “King of the Burgh” (Pittsburgh, PA ). On left, Frzy is taking the journey from middle school basketball practice to playing ball for Team USA. Pulling the sock, arm band, and the laces just right to guarantee not just his moves will be pleasing to the eye. On right, plays a story of the same prodigy from novice rapper to legendary MC. Starts with the classic boom-box jam session scene; Frzy is rewinding, recording, and searing the greats into the mind of a true Hip-Hop head. That depicts the essence of Frzy’s new mixtape called “Reincarnation,” a collection of 40 classic Jay-Z songs covered as homage to Jay-Z set for release. This mixtape features original Jay-Z lyrics/style fused with the “double take effect” of Frzy’s version resonating over some of Jay’s most beloved tracks. The dynamic combination of Frzy’s intellectually inclined punch-line flows, HQ’s eclectic producer and engineering capabilities, and DJ Wigs phenomenal ability to mix and create classic new sounds from two classic Jay-Z tracks (plus his track listing takes us on an evolutionary journey) is sure to impress lovers of Hip-Hop and Jay-Z alike.
Since there are 26 tracks to be released, so far, I will only comment on these Four:
Track 2: “The Ruler’s Back”
I’m representin the track that Obama ran/in shoes that Michael danced/in the place rap stands
If you may judge a man by his chosen mentors, then I
believe we have a winner here. On the first track, Frzy
discusses an anecdote from his dad explaining the
importance of practicing/playing with “the greats” to
develop greatness. This track solidifies Frzy choosing
the right path towards entering the early stages of
the MC evolution.
Track 12: “Dig a Hole”
I’m just waiting till you dig a hole/
Big enough to but my whole ego in
This is where the MC has begun not only to walk upright,
but smells himself a bit; the basketball player is
ambiguously showing off on and off court. By now the
Jay-Z video in your mind should be set at the height/climax
of local notoriety that is also relative to the self-concept of
Frzy, the MC, at the time.
Track 22: “Rappers vs. MC’s”
Started in your court, now I got the ball….
Rappers only go gold, like C3PO/
You shouldn’t have forced it/only Jedi’s do so
Genius is now realized, maintained, and sarcastically broadcasted.
Track 26: “My First Song”
Cause, my brain is as bright as my chain….
By now both shots of the “soldiers” should highlight a sense of peace and security with ideas surrounding critical success. The ball player and the MC are one in skill developments, swagger, and personal agendas (i.e. self-proclaimed image)
