Detailed review by attendee of Jay's gig last night:

"It was 9:20 PM on Friday night at All Points West on Liberty State Park, and Jay-Z still hadn’t started his set, which was supposed to begin at 9:10 PM. It’s not unusual for artists to be late, but based the how punctual all of the previous acts were, the 20 minute time lapse was making the crowd antsy. Yet at 9:25, a digital timer appeared on the screen of the stage showing 10:00 minutes, letting the crowd know the countdown had begun. With ten seconds left to go, the ticker numbers turned red, and the buzz of the audience grew louder. As soon as zero hit, S. Carter appeared.

Hov likes to throw in a little surprise in every show he does, and the All Points West set was no exception. To pay homage to the Beastie Boys and the ailing MCA, The first song Jiggaman performed was the 1987 Beastie Boys hit “No Sleep ‘til Brooklyn”. Jay-Z changed the lyrics to the song; rather than rapping "Beastie Boys at the Garden", he spit "Jay-Z at All Points West." As he rhymed the Beastie’s hit (with amazing precision, mind you), images of Marcy Projects, Bedford Ave, and Kent Ave. flashed above his head in a video montage. He followed this tune with his own love letter to the BK, “Brooklyn We Go Hard.”

Another tribute was to Michael Jackson – In “I Just Wanna Love U”, Jay replaced “Ladies love me long time like 2Pac's soul” with “Ladies love me long time like MJ's soul”. He then told the audience, “We don’t mourn death, we celebrate life” and launched into Izzo (H.O.V.A.) with a J5 clip of “I Want You Back” intertwined into the mix.

Jiggaman continued the 80-minute show with a high level of energy. He joked with the crowd, saying “Thanks for f***ing up your sneakers for seeing me” in reference to the heavy rain earlier in the day that turned the field into a mud pit. He also gave a shout out to the “O.G. Ice-T”, who was apparently in attendance (and was most likely in the practically-empty VIP bleacher section). He performed a montage of his popular titles, and also did “D.O.A.” and “Run This Town”.

As the gig was winding down, Jay was like a kid who didn’t want Christmas to be over. He thanked the crowd profusely for coming out, and then started calling out audience members. At one point, he said “Thanks to you in the tie-dye shirt. They still make tye-dye?” Welcome to your first American festival, Hovi Baby."
